How Greenpeace Designs & Develops for Simplicity

As a large, non-profit organization, Greenpeace USA is comprised of people with a broad range of skills and passions. Much of our work results in the production of (amazing) content in articles, press releases, reports, and even online magazines. For us, having a lot of “cooks” meant we needed to establish a very simple “kitchen” to prevent the need for extensive training across many different post types. This talk will be about how we design for simplicity, reusability, and maintainability across our entire website in order to facilitate contributions from writers with varied, and sometimes non-technical, backgrounds. From a technical standpoint, this talk will focus on modular design, custom post types, and limiting user input, with a strong focus on the Advanced Custom Fields Pro plugin.
